Focus on Building Relationships

It's not about the sale. It's about the person.

Sales will always follow relationships.

I know how tempting it is to get caught up in the numbers. More calls, more leads, more deals. But if you're constantly chasing transactions instead of connections, you'll burn out fast—and your business won't feel like yours anymore.

I am huge fan of Scott Stratten and his Unmarketing Philosophy because it works. It is how I built my entire mortgage business-on relationships.

“If you believe business is built on relationships, make building them your business.” — Scott Stratten

When you slow down and actually see people—ask how they're doing, send a quick note, celebrate their wins—they remember. They come back. They send others.

“People don't spread meh. They spread awesome.” — Scott Stratten

So instead of asking, “How do I get more business?” try asking, “How can I serve more deeply today?”

Here are 5 ways you can build relationships this week—without feeling salesy or overwhelmed:

  • Send a quick voice note to a past client just to say hi and check in—no pitch, just connection.

  • Comment on five social posts from people in your network. Support their wins. Cheer them on.

  • Write one handwritten thank-you card to a referral partner or client who made your day recently.

  • Follow up with someone you helped 3+ months ago—ask how things are going and offer help if needed.

  • Make a list of your top 10 people you want to build deeper connections with this year—and schedule one intentional touchpoint for each.

These small actions? They compound. People remember how you made them feel.

Here's your gentle nudge for the week:

Go be awesome. Focus on real relationships. The rest will take care of itself.
