NUMBERS DON'T HAVE FEELINGS

Numbers have always been something that calms me down. I know it might sound weird but I find beauty in the simplicity of numbers. They are not good or bad and they don't have feelings. You can work with them and come up with a solution right there in black and white. It's just magical to me.

In our Elite Broker Membership group (it's $99/month and you get weekly coaching, tools, resources and community…just sayin) we are currently completing our business plans and 2025 goals. This work requires us to set an annual goal (funded mortgages by dollars or units or annual income desired) and then work backwards to ensure our monthly and weekly activities are specifically designed to achieve our goal.

We then need to measure the numbers against those activities on a monthly basis to ensure we are moving towards our goal. We need to adjust those activities if the numbers are not where we want them to be.

The feelings and emotions that are coming up around this type of tracking are intense and I completely get it.

When create an emotional attachment to those numbers, which most of us do, we gauge our self worth and our success or failure based on those results. As a result of this, most of us are afraid to set a goal and track our results and activities on a weekly or monthly basis because we are so afraid to fail. If we fail it means we are a failure.

I invite you to look at this differently as you go into 2025. Here are some ideas for your to shift your mindset:

  • When you set a goal it is not rigid. What it does is allow you to design your activities around what a day in the life of a person that is hitting those goals would do. It makes you intentional with what you do every day.

  • You are running a business, and while you might be the owner and only employee you are still running a business. You are not your business. You are you and you decided to become an entrepreneur.

  • The success or failure of your business is not a reflection of who you are as a person. Begin to detach from your business emotionally. I had to do this and it took me a long time to get to the point where my identity wasn't wrapped up in being a mortgage broker.

  • Numbers give you clarity. Numbers help you shift direction if something is not generating results. Numbers give you power. When your identity is not connected to your results you can view them more objectively

  • Numbers don't lie and they are necessary to grow your business. You need to know your numbers and you need to look at them often.

  • If you focus on revenue generating activities you will get results, and you are measuring those activities every week or month you will know which activities you want to start, stop or continue.

  • Winging it only works for so long-eventually your growth will stall.

2025 is when you shift your mindset to a Business Owner Mindset. Start with believing that it is completely possible to grow your business in 2025, and you can believe this because you are going to have a plan. Give yourself the gift of planning, tracking and measuring this year.
