REMOVE "WHY" FROM YOUR VOCABULARY.

Ask yourself this-when someone asks you why you did something, why you said something, why you made that decision what is your immediate feeling or response?

Defensive.

You instinctively feel the need to defend yourself, your decision or your position. Right?

How do you think your clients or business partners feel when you ask them why?

I invite you to change your wording and pay attention to how your conversations can shift.

Instead of asking why, try asking what.

Try these questions instead:

“What was the reason that you had chosen to take this direction?”

“What was important to you in that moment?”

Some other great conversation openers are:

"Tell me more", or “Please elaborate”

“Can you tell me what you meant when you said that?”

Focus on using why sparingly or not at all in your personal and professional life.

You will be surprised at the shift in how people respond to you.

Have an amazing week!
